Every October, the European smoketrees shine in bright red. Not far from the paper mill (Papiermühle) in Jena's Mühltal, this natural spectacle attracts many hikers.
The narrow path there along the shell limestone cliffs with the lookout point Lutherkanzel is a beautiful hiking area in late summer or early autumn.
